Who Is Jesus?

Jesus is captivating. So, who is Jesus? It’s a question worth exploring.

Jesus said this of himself: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father [God] except through me” (John 14:6). It’s a bold claim. But Jesus went further, saying, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).

So, here is the marvelous mystery of Jesus’ identity: the man Jesus, who is fully human, and therefore approachable and relatable, claims to be at the very same time God in the flesh. He is not merely a way to God, he is God.

Of course, anyone can claim to be Divine. But Jesus proved it by living the perfect life we should have lived, by dying the death we should have died in our place, and, ultimately, through his glorious resurrection from the dead. Jesus demonstrated that he is the master of life and death, and therefore, that his revolutionary words are true.

Since Jesus truly did rise from the dead, that means that he’s still alive, and you can know him today. You can enter into a vital, life-transforming relationship with the God of the universe. Jesus didn’t come to burden people with arbitrary rules. He came so that we “can have real and eternal life, more and better life than [we] ever dreamed of” (John 10:10).
